Toshiba Widescreen CRT w/HDMI

Funny, I thought Sony and Samsung were the only ones to make a widescreen HD CRT w/ HDMI. I spotted a Toshiba locally, I think it's a 30", with built-in DVD, VHS and digital tuner for $25. I don't know why I am drawn to go get it. I surely don't need it, but I want it, LOL.

I used to get the 4:3 Toshibas with the built-in DVD/VHS when I worked at the recycler. They always seemed to work well and have a decent picture, so I bet the widescreen model would be a good unit.

There's no way I could get it today. But if it's there tomorrow, by golly, I just might have to break my back picking it up

Sounds interesting.

The Sony super-fine pitch CRT sets are sort of a white whale to me....They either cost more than I can pay when found for sale, or the copper scrappers have gotten to them if on the curb.....

Looks to have an SD memory card port too, so it can probably play downloaded videos put on a card.

I'd honestly get it if in your shoes. Those sets were rare-ish when new, and if you wait too long to decide you want one you won't find any.

They might live longer in modern homes than NTSC sets, but with the modern consumer aversion to CRT sets it's only a matter of time till they get dumped.

Orion made Toshiba's combo units and even some TVs toward the end, but I'd be surprised if they made something that high end.

Add Panasonic to the list as well - their Tau line was top-rated over Sony and others. I've owned two - one was a 27" 16:9 and the other was a 4:3 Monitor, picked up from a local school system - it was their HD monitor. Ironically, it's HD picture was smaller in size than the 27" - but nice 1080i pic nonetheless.

The 27" 16:9 was an import, with dual tuners - one NTSC (HDMI was the only HD compatible portion) and one PAL, I guess. I used it hooked up to a DVR cable box until I got an LCD set. Odd boards inside - looked almost like some of the Philips sets with all the SMD parts on the bottom of the boards.

I've seen a couple of LG CRT sets with a HDMI input. 720p capable from memory, no digital tuner. Went back to pick one up that I initially passed by and it was gone.

I wanted a HD CRT set for a while (with or without HDMI), considered a couple of Toshiba's and Sony's. As always they were always too far away. One did come up locally, but between the high asking price and my sore back at the time I let it go...

My wife and I camped at a Ronald McDonald house years ago when our son was hospitalized for about 6 weeks, he's fine no worries. They had a Samsung wide CRT. I wasn't worried about playing with it, but I noticed an excessive amount of over scan from HD sources. Since then I have wondered if that was a regular thing or something with that 1 TV.

99% its an Orion built set. Cabinet is identical to
the smaller ones. Very small chance they slid a
real toshiba in there. Especially being a combo.
Personally I would track down a Sony. Avoid the Samsung,
the FBT was discoed in 2 yrs & we junked several.
Needless to say the customers were PISSED.
