another 1962 RCA 19" B&W

I recapped this set and had to take apart and repair the on/off switch. It was one of those push/pull types combined with the volume control.

I just tested this out and it works good. After I recap, I usually still have to change at least 1 tube, or a bad resistor messing up the horiz or vert sweep, but not here. I still have to clean the tuner, polish up the cabinet, and make some adjustments, but then I'll be done with this one.

I took the CRT out to clean the inside of the glass and the cabinet, then put the whole set back together, turned it around, and saw that I didn't quite get all the dirt off the back of the glass. Now I have to take it all apart again...

For glass cleaning, I highly recommend Invisible Glass. It's way better than Windex.

I don't even have any windex, been using just soapy water!

After letting it run for a while, I needed to replace a weak AGC tube, clean some controls, and do a little resoldering.

Here's a pic of it all together. It's missing a blue plastic washer that would go between the volume control and the top of the cabinet.

Up next is a '59 GE 17" B&W...

It looks like the more deluxe model
Is the AGC tube a 4AV6?
Does the on-off switch have the bakelite back on it? I have replacement switches for them, probably NLA.

The 4AV6 was ok, it was the 6GY6 that was weak. I think the bottom of the switch was plastic. It's not as deluxe as my other KCS137 with the remote though. I was surprised this one didn't have a lighted dial. The mechanism with the clear plastic cylinder which rotates around and displays the channel number is the same in both sets, but the remote one has a light inside it and this one doesn't.

Mallory used to sell nice PP on/off switch replacements, the
KR8 & KR9. All metal. Get some if you spot them.

I thought mine were Centralab, the KR8 number is familiar.

I just recapped another one of these, a 1963 KCS-138. I still have to take out the CRT and clean all the dust in front, otherwise it's fixed. Now I have 3 of these 19" RCAs in this cabinet: A 61 KCS 137 with a mechanical remote, the 62 KCS 137 earlier in this thread, and this 63 which has the original stand.

Here's all 3 together, from left to right: the 61 remote set, the 62, then the 63 on the stand. I've got a black 17" 59 RCA on the other side of the room too. Now I need to find a 1960 to complete the set.
