Glow
There's a series on Netflix called GLOW that my wife and I have been watching. It's about 80s "Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling" (I think that's the acronym) and the making of a really low-budget ladies' wrestling league/TV show. (Spoiler Alert) The last episode of binge-watched Season 1 is the actual production, editing, and airing of the first show. Shot hand-held with cameras (that TV guys will be able to identify) it's edited on BVU-800 3/4" U-Matic machines, and they do a good job of mostly-period-correct equipment. There was an Ampex ADO in one shot, and a bevy of standard def broadcast monitors that looked like either Ikegami or Barco (Didn't go back and do 'inventory' because wife. ) Complete with painfully slow 3/4" rewind (told ya) and a "Broadcast News" homage run to master control with the tape. TV segment was in 4:3 pretty-low-def, if you're seeking new content to play on your roundies.
Stars Alison Brie (Community), Betty Gilpin, and Marc Maron (hilariously caustic comedian and podcaster). Chip |
