Silvertone model 1954 radio.

Any off you long-time radio restorers run into a Silvertone model 1954?
It's the one with the strange volume control setup. A linkage changes the coupling on the 2nd IF to control the volume. It appears to be built by Colonial.

I own one (or the octal version of it)...It works nicely after a recap. I was worried the power transformer was shot as it had leaked some tar and used a rectifier that looked like one of the infamous for shorting 6X5s. The transformer actually played dead (tube was out of the socket) on the first power up then came back to life. I immediately dewired the HV wiring on the tube and added a terminal strip with 1N4007s underneath, but left the heater wired for aesthetics.

I love those green dial 30s Silverstone's. They're beautiful sets, work good, and are electrically interesting. I've got the console model with PPP 45 outputs too (waiting it's turn on my bench). Almost bought a green dial battery console with eliminator at an Indiana antique store last fall (remembered I don't have space and have the deluxe AC set and stopped myself), and almost bought the other deco cabinet tombstone model of this set earlier this year (easier to justify making room for table sets).
