Got my 1977 Sanyo VCM-2000 working!

Thanks to reading the forums here, I managed to figure out how to get this thing hooked up and running. It looks like this one:

http://www.labguysworld.com/Sanyo_VCM-2000.htm

I got it on eBay for very little money, no idea if it worked. I have a Hauppauge HVR-1600 capture card and I'm running Ubuntu Linux. I had to hook up a PL-259 connector to an RCA jack and run that into an RCA->S Video converter to bring it into my card, but it worked! I am playing and capturing video with the application known as 'mplayer' in Linux; all free.

I recorded a test stream (sorry, no audio) and saved it as an MPG file. I used Handbrake to convert that to an MK4 file and uploaded it to YouTube. Obviously, I could have edited it, but I just wanted to run this test for now.

Next up is figuring out how to get my audio into the stream; I have obtained a condensor microphone and pre-amp, and I know I have to get a mixer. However, I'm not sure how I'm going to deal with the time lag on the video input; I notice that the video stream is a full second or slower than 'real time' when I am watching my own ugly mug on the monitor. So I'm sure that the audio and the video won't be matched up. Any thoughts?

Anyway, just wanted to say thanks. Having fun here.

Love your glasses. I've always wanted to pick up a pair like that.

Thanks! I have been wearing this style for years. This is a pair of vintage American Optical frames (circa 1955) that I bought on eBay, then had them fitted with my prescription. They're my daily wear glasses.
