21-CT-55 Beam converging magnet?
I discovered that the blue 'beam converging magnet' as the RCA manual calls it snapped right at the end, and found the knurled part sitting in the HV cage. I tried to glue it back together, but it's a no-go. It's a small round magnet, about 1/8" in diameter, and just over an inch in length. It looks similar to the ones found on the CTC-4, but I can't be sure. Anyone have a spare, or another part that might work?

The blue lateral magnet from any 21” roundy will work.

The blue lateral magnets should be interchangeable among any and all 21" roundies of any age. I can't remember if that one is electified or not... If so, and if you go with a newer non-electric one, dress the electric coil someplace out of the way, or check in the schematic if it's part of another circuit or if it can just be removed. Beware of the proper positioning, and that if you use the one like you have, I recall that the round bar is on the top (over the blue gun, of course), and sticks more out to your left when behind the TV and looking at the neck of the tube. The non-round bar version is adjusted by rotating the whole ring a degree or so back & forth over the blue gun, while the old round bar magnet sits square and level on top, and the bar itself is twisted for moving the blue landing.

*sigh*
Knew there would be confusion, it's hard to explain. "beam converging magnet" not blue lateral. This is the stick magnet in between the electromagnetic convergence assy, it moves the beams around during the convergence proceedure.

Sorry for any confusion I added to...
I don't know, but I'd guess that you could experiment with putting a CTC-4 one, or possibly just making the original one sit in place even if you can't adjust it.. Then use it as the reference and land the others onto it. Honestly I don't remember ever doing the convergence on a CTC-2B, so I can't offer any tips on that. I have SOMEWHERE the parts salvaged from two 21CT55s from my house fire in '88, but those might be impossible to find any time soon. Charles

21-CT-55 Parts
kx250rider, et al.:
I recently began the restoration of a 21-CT-55. If you have any, even damaged parts, I would be grateful for the opportunity to purchase a few items from you should any remain that you'd wish to part with. At this time, I do not believe any convergence field magnets are needed for my project, however I would defer to miniman82 regardless, [his] set is a beautiful surviving receiver and that would take priority. I am looking for the low-voltage cage, the bottom screen, and one cabinet leg. Kind regards Last edited by CT-100; 05-20-2011 at 12:45 PM. Reason: Clarification of message. |
