I guess the Wildcat and its brethren were the 70's equivalent of the 50's "one tube wonders." I have a c.1980 Vanity Fair that makes the Wildcat's turntable look like audiophile stuff. Of course, the amps aren't terribly different nor is the sound quality.

Yeah,that's true,there were a lot of poor sounding record players made in the 1950's and '60's too.
There was also a wildcat lookalike made by concert hall,and another brand whose name eludes me at the moment that used a cheap BSR changers.
