Kuba Komet

Lots of detailed pics in this auction including the guts.
I would not want to work on this thing!

I second that , it looks tough to service , that is the strangest tv I've seen yet . And sereious injury could result if you stumbled into it .

LOL Yep, I posted pics of one of those *things* when I first joined AK. I mistakenly thought it was a Philco product back then. Looks like what George Jetson would have for an entertainment center, doesn't it?

I recently parted out a Kuba console radio about this same age. Very cheaply made compared to other German sets. Among other things, when I went to move it the end of the cabinet fell completely off. I did save the "Kuba" emblems in case somebody needed one for a Komet.

Wouldn't that make an awesome fishtank?!

Sorry, I just couldn't resist

EDIT: While I'm wasting time playing with the smilies, Fuji posts the same idea. Maybe I'm not insane after all

Am I the only person who loves the way this thing looks?

I like it! Just because it looks so insane. I would not pay that much for it though, since it is missing some rather important parts.

$3,000 for one that looks like it's been rolled down the stairs? I don't think so, but maybe they are SO rare that...

If I was going to spend that much money , I would rather invest it in a RCA 621 TS

Well, there are just a dozen surviving kuba komets in the world, it's definitely something worth restoring...

Well, it would have been something if it had been a Roundie color set-Even tho they didn't have color TV in Germany then-IIRC-Kuba could have done that for the ones sold here in the States. Or if it even had a larger CRT...But the way it is, it's just so...so... so....BIZARRE...and it doesn't even have the "bulletproof" construction quality, apparently, that postwar German products were/are so justly proud of.
