Re-capping newer tv's is not necessary. Caps are made better now, the '40's 50's 60's had used different materials and they often did not hold up well. Newer sets like that panasonic may have some parts that would go regularly on a specific model, but just replacing all for no reason on a set like that is just a waste.

Granted, this set is 9 years older than the one belonging to the OP, but as this video demonstrates, not all failing components produce immediately visible problems. You never know what problems may be lurking.

I vote with username1. That can be a crap load of caps especially
in a set like this Panny. The biggest thing is the risk of inducing a
new problem & thats the hardest thing to find. Some common cap
problems like the 2 tantalums in a Toshiba or the 200V filter that goes in
everything are one thing. But all of them ? .
Best to spend time checking it over for cold joints, you will find
them in almost any old TV. Just do a visual on the caps in the
PS, hoz, vert & scan supplies. If you see a top lifting & puss coming
out change it !

^ Sounds good to me. By the way, It's amazing that I never got a shock from HV, what with all the TVs and monitors I took apart in my youth without really knowing what I was doing. Worst I got was a couple of doses of household mains voltage, one being on a challenge from the superintendent at my old building. That guy could hold onto live mains wires no problem.

The HV wont kill a health man but the mains sure can easily.
It just makes you sweat & may give you a-fribs for a short time.
If fact if someone has a-fribs & gets a properly timed belt it can
reset the heart to a normal rhythm. They did it to me 3 times but I
didnt use a TV, I went to the hospital instead. Works better

^ Wow, I guess it's good that I didn't get dryer/stove current either time.

The bosses dryer crapped out once. Traced it to a bad cigar fuse.
Having had some liquid courage he decided to jump it with a
hefty screw driver so his wife would stop nagging him.
The dryer had a dead short & cut half way through the screw driver
before he jerked back. He said it was quite a show.
Gotta respect AC
