I'm not sure, but i don't think they're worth that much. |

It would be a lot higher if it was a white one instead of the more common black version.

...but are they actually worth that much, or is it just worth that much to one person?

Based on bid history there are definitely two people that will pay that much.

They are unusual, very unusual. They are moderately rare. They are neat technology.
They have crappy pictures: the vertical lines show, the contrast is poor, and the color is poor in an odd sort of way. They are also bitch to restore: I gave up on mine and sent it to a specialist in them. You really do have to run the boards through an ultrasonic to get rid of the corrosive goo from the bad caps, and then carefully repair all the bad circuit board traces. |

Here is a screenshot from the KVX 370 Indextron with 3.7 inch CRT. The camera was just a few inches away. If viewed from several feet, the index stripes are not as visible.
This is a screenshot from the bigger brother, Sony IDX 5000 Indextron. It has a 5.25 inch screen with finer pitch. After this shot, the scratches on the plexiglass screen cover were buffed out. Again, looks better from a few feet away. This shot is larger then actual size.

Two more.
A “recapped working as new” increases value.

well it's all over sold for $581. I think collectors of rare tvs do not care if the tv works real well they want and are willing to pay top dollar for it. I see the price of collector tvs are going up in price very fast and the seller is getting asking price and more. I bid $200. on a mid 60'S tv priced at $99. I thought it would never get that high. sold for $355. a 1965 Philco.

That particular model was an option for Ford vehicles in 66, it's been expensive for a long time.
