Flickering '87 Trinitron
It has done this seemingly at random since I got it, but I have since found out it is probably caused by power fluctuations. I was running the dishwasher while watching a movie the other day and noticed that the flickering, a white horizontal line at random places on the screen, would happen when the dishwasher would switch to different cycles. I'm wondering what's going on inside the set that might be contributing to this.

Could be poor voltage regulation. Check the power supply and the caps associated with it.

Sonys of that vintage also had bad solder joints in the IF section - but the flickering would be sensitive to a tap on the cabinet of the set. What's the model number? Is it an XBR set, or earlier?
Cheers,

This one may remain a mystery but.
It may be supply regulation but usually you would see the pix kinda pulse. Other heavy hitters would cause it also like the fridge, washer, well pump etc. Is it on the same line as the DW ?? Another likely thing is the DW is transmitting some noise or hash through the line or over air. More likely if the DW is electronic. If thats the case it may be kinda normal. Try listening on an AM radio for a static crash when it happens. Third thing is Sony had lots of bad PC cons in the tuners & IF's but that would be shock sensitive. Try hitting it & see if it does it. 73 Zeno |

Huh? I can't really get into actually fixing this stuff without the tools I need, and they get expensive when they can be found here, which isn't often. I don't have equipment money to toss around like TinCanAlley. Right now I'm just curious. By the way, hitting the cabinet does not produce the same effect, and the dishwasher is on a separate line.

Apartment actually, a house is another thing I don't have the cash for. The model number is my username. It's the set that started my collection.

A suggestion - get an external EMI filter, as you can't do much with the dishwasher. TDK makes an excellent one - ANF-105 (max 5 Amp) or the 106 (max 6 Amp). I have two, scrounged after my office did away with a beast Ricoh copier/printer that gave all the CRT monitors fits when running. I use them on an older plasma set that is susceptible to EMI from a crappy cable box, and the other is on my router/modem, a problem rooted out when a temporary roommate ( a real geek) pointed out some packet problems that I still don't comprehend.
Attached is the only entries I could find for repair tips for the 1926R. Your set is one of those affected by the bad solder in the IF sections. Cheers,

My sony television was giving me lines from my directv box . It comes and go's now . The directv guy changed the LMB AND redid the connections for the coax cable . Im betting you have a bad cable . The lines are sideways right and about a half a inch apart right . First off youi have cable or satellite directv or dish ?.
