Horizontal Lines

The horizontal frequency is way off on my old TV. The lines are about 1/4" apart and won't adjust. What could be wrong? I have tried tubes and recapped. Can I ground the input of the horizontal sync to see if the pix will centerpost?

You need to know if its a sync related failure or a true oscillator failure. Assuming you've ruled out sync failure here are a few things you can try...

Check for drifted resistors in the oscillator circuit. If they are all ok, you can try adjusting the oscillator directly using the tuned slug. Check the schematic to make sure you're adjusting the oscillator and not the phase.

If this uses a potentiometer to adjust the horizontal hold, remove it form the circuit and check to see that it still has the proper resistance comparing what's printed on it or in the schematic
