I'm baaaaack
Hey people,
It's been many a sunrise and sunset since I last posted. A lot of water under the bridge. All that jazz. I'm still listening to old stereos and still a webmonkey. Photography has become a big thing for me, though I have yet to try to do something with it other than enjoy it. Maybe that's all I will do- after all, enjoyment of life is really what it's about- it's the only one we get, might as well make it as nice as we can. I'll post some things eventually. Linux has become a hobby as well- sitting with a cup of joe and Handbrake, digitizing some old discs about to bite the dust on this nice sunny birthday morning. Hope to be chatting with you all soon. |

Happy Birthday!
Any particular reason why you want to "do something" with photography (I assume you mean make some money)? If you enjoy it, turning it into a business could be good but could be torture if it makes you do stuff you're not really interested in. Any camera clubs in your area? |

Do you mean LP's? Those only die of wear from playing them many times with high tracking force, or disinterested humans trashing them. The former is preventable (or long-term delayable) with good equipment/care. Please don't be the latter.

Welcome back, have a happy birthday and what old stereos do you have?
I just gave a home to more than a crateful of 78 rpm records yesterday and yet I do not own a Victrola... but many 78's sound awesome using a ceramic cartridge and 3-mil sapphire stylus and amped via a TUBE amp Long live the 6V6! The modern portable players are bad for old records. The post-war players are tough and they are perfectly OK as long as you check/adjusting tracking forces to what is recommended for the stylus/cart combo. For my 50th birthday - I picked up my first awesome console, a 1964 Motorola with 23 tubes, 3-channel/vibrasonic, 11 speakers in a 2-lid Drexel contemporary walnut.
