Admiral model# difference?

I have a Color Rectangular Admiral LK 5541 that needs a flyback. I located one for a LK 5541 M.

Anybody know what the M would indicate ?

I used to work for a Admiral dealer but havn't the foggiest notion what the difference would be. Remote, Combination, Institutional, Motor tuner, Metal Cabinet ?

The original part # is 79D110-6 Dont know what the replacement would look like.

Any ideas would be a help. Any body have one in a doner chassis under the bench?

If you have the sam's you could ohm out the replacement and see if it agrees with the sam's values. It is not a sure fire compatibility test, but it can justify a "smoke test" with the replacement wired in. Some early monochrome sets that sam's never published fly replacement numbers for have had compatible replacements found in this manner if I'm not mistaken.

Odds are the M designation has no relation to any horizontal differences, but I'm no Admiral guru.

I would imagine the replacement would be similar looking to the original. A comparison of the original, in terms of size and mounting, to the replacement might tell you something as well.

I never did anything with model numbers. It was always chassis numbers.
Model numbers usually designated cabinet styles, finishes and options.
Magnavox was probably the hardest product line to find information using a model number.

According to the SAMS index the Admiral model LK5541 is in folder 915, The LK 5541 M is in SAMS folder 876 with (PCB 960-4) following that listing.
SAMS explains the letters PCB mean the folder contains data supplemenary to models covered in a previously issued Photofact folder. I read this as a running production change and that you should refer to both folders when making repairs. Anyone else have any ideas on this?

Is your chassis number a #100768 Runxx or stamped as an H1257-1? If so then I believe it would be the 876-1 Photofact.

IIRC, Admiral built the H12 chassis, for about three model years.
The set uses shunt regulation, instead of pulse or feedback regulation. You'd have to look at the PCB to determine if changes refer to the horizontal sweep circuits. Admiral, like Motorola always had pages of production changes, for certain models.

Here's a pic of the chassis I was referring to, and it has a Triad replacement D-340 fly on it.

The replacement will look just like the original having just done one recently. The replacement should cover most 79D110 flys. May have slight differences in the wiring etc. Moyers should have that fly. pics of my old one 79D110-5. Yours is probably just as melted down.

I thought that chassis looked familiar...I've got an admiral with the older version of that chassis.
Those used a combination of four pots and some jumpers to set the CRT bias/grey scale in a way completely different from the 5-6 pot RCA/Zenith method and IMHO very difficult, counter intuitive and tricky by comparison(especially if your CRT is as weak as mine).

Moyers has no more. I did second scource it and have a Stancore replacement. Silicone and everything. I too have that new flyback smell. When I finish my current project this will hit the bench next!

I also worked at an Admiral dealer 1970 til the end. I dont remember
the model scheme but M may just mean maple cabinet. Like Zeniths
last letter M=maple P=Pecan DE= dark oak etc.
I do remember I think it was G13 chassis OEM flys were a kit
& I despised them. Took quite a while to do one. I would rather
work on GE's all day..........

The original G13's had two 6JM6's. IIRC, the kit came with a single 6KD6 to replace the original two tubes. Plus a lot of other engineering changes that were probably associated with the lousy feedback regulator circuit.
The set, I remember changing the flyback in, that was a real dog, was a 19" Magnavox hybrid. The original flyback used a HV rectifier tube, where the replacement used a trippler. That part wasn't bad but the kit came with a mess of diodes and other parts. The kit came with a revised schematic, to show where all the parts went.
One of the many reasons, I never had too much love for Magnavox products.

That must have been the Maggie with slide controls along the
bottom. Real toilet. I think I did a FBT in one also. Only liked their
2 board sets, C-1 I think it was. T809 & its ancestors not to
bad to deal with either.....

Thanks for the memories
