Pic of Cedar Hill TX antenna farm
Was watching local weather just now and they lead in with a nice shot of AT&T stadium with the Cedar Hill broadcast antenna farm behind it.
It almost looks like the antennas are on top of the stadium but they are actually about 12 miles South of the stadium. I'm old enough to remember when there was only ONE antenna tower there, the old Ch's 4-5-8 candelabra antenna structure. - |

There still is a candelabra in Baltimore's Druid Hill Park for 2(now 38)-11-13. There is a much higher antenna next to it for one of the three independent channels.

The Ceder Hill towers are pretty easy to see from many southern parts of he DFW area, but that must have been an unusually clear day!

Yep we had a front blow through early this morning and really cleared the air.
When I first glanced up and saw that, I thought Jerry Jones had sold out the roof of the stadium! Back in 1967 (I was 16) I remember being able to see the distant lights from the Cedar Hill towers from the roof of the house I grew up in, in far NE Dallas, through the atmosphere making them twinkle. Probably a good 30 miles line of sight. Sighted down the boom of our new Winegard SuperColorton antenna aiming it. We had put it up for our new Silvertone color TV. Bought the antenna at FedMart if anyone remembers that store. No way that could ever happen now as the Dallas skyline has expanded greatly. |

Baltimore was the location where the first candelabra went up in '58 or so.

Hmmm... according to the October 1955 Broadcast News, the Cedar Hill candelabra was built in 1955. |
