A RCA Model 5 color prototype sold for over $10k a couple of years ago. Some Kuba Komets have approached this figure, and the Emerson Telejuke we have was above $10k:

I think that was wise of both of them. Re-listing could be fraught with problems since people would now know what they were willing to bid. Then there are the just plain evil individuals who would bid just to jack the price up for those who are serious bidders believing that they'd be safe by knowing how to underbid.

Then if if the guy who bid $70K was forbidden to bid, or decided to refrain, and the bidding followed the same pattern it would have gone for ~$5,100 since that was the next lower maximum bid.

I think this is how it would work. The 2nd highest bid was $9,277, the 3rd was $5,200. So if no one bid $70k, then it would have gone to the 2nd highest guy for $100 over $5,200 = $5,300. But I don't think that the seller and the 2nd highest bidder would now have to necessarily agree on that exact price.

Right, I wasn't implying that it went for $5,300. I was just trying to point out what a mess the $70k bid made of things and that relisting might not be the best of ideas and that a compromise might be best for both the seller and the bidder.

In addition to the above, the record price for a CT-100 on eBay is $9,623.00 set in the summer of 2007.
