Tektronix 531 saved

I went exploring an old abandoned factory just before it was demolished and saved this scope It's a Tektronix 531 from 1953. It's the first model to use plug-ins I believe.

The power cord is missing, but I was able to rig something up and turn it on. It actually seems to work fine except the fan doesn't work. I was told not to run it for any length of time without the fan.

I haven't decided what to do with it yet. Is it work restoring ?
I also know where I can get a Type 545B with cart for only $25. I really don't have room on the workbench for these monsters, but they are cool

Some folks-Philistines, mainly-rob all the old tubes outta these things-They can have Bugle Boys in 'em. I've read the problem is that oft times they are literally worn slap-dab out, & will give a lot of trouble, even after a diligent re-capping. Still, it DOES seem wrong to see one of these Tooob-era masterpieces broken up for parts & precious metals.

You never know....I do come to the area for ARCI meets when I'm off college for the summer(and some times during the academic year if I can manage), and I seem to recall you offering me some knobs for a bakelite admiral that is in my resto cue. I wouldn't mind having a good tube scope that can be fixed if I make a mistake and cook it.

OK, if I decide not to keep it, I think I can bring it to the next ARCI meet in late summer.
