50's "Golden-Age" Camera
Some nice 1950's RCA tube technology. I lifted the one w/out lenses onto cart for pictures. It's heavier than it looks but I wanted to get the feel of what it was like to work with these things in the 50's.

Nice photos, great looking unit! I know QTQ-9 and NBN-3 in Australia used these TK-31s as illustrated in my thread http://videokarma.org/showthread.php?t=247571 I am on the lookout for any units that have been preserved by collectors, museums or possibly stations and am hoping to find at least one surviving specimen.

I've seen those cameras in studio and later [reassigned to Remote truck service late 60's] covering Springbok demonstration ~1970.
They were replaced in studio by Fernseh solid state Monochrome I.O. [model?] using Fernseh OS-20F [3inch?] I.O. Which were, in turn, replaced with LDK-5 in '73-'74. Don't know what happened to RCA's or Fernseh's - did see Ampex 1000 there up for grabs, taken by tech staff member who attempted to get it running [needed special power connection for deck + associated racks]. TVQ-0 had RCA TK-60's? [Cool!] & ch 7 had Marconi which I think I saw one camera in Bris themed restaurant ~1980 w/ vintage B'cast equip. |
