got it home today.cabinet was pretty nice.top had a little damage-dreaded rings!i will reflow the finish.crt checks like new.brought it up and it has a full raster with a very sharp image and the color is very nice.has some vertical issues-look like a recap is in order.that 21cyp22 has a very good fleshtone and the reds are like an explosion!everything works and i am quite happy to save
this from the plasma installer.although i may not keep this,(i am holding another older rca),i still like this set.i guess i will ebay this one.it will stay in this country.
i wonder how long did they watch this with a vertical problem?amazing how clean and well maintained this set was and yet,the vertical was never repaired.will post pics tomorrow

here are some pics of the ctc 7.sorry,its raining here and the cable is out.it does have a nice bright, sharp picture.as stated, the vertical will shrink as it plays.starts out full and will lose 20% after one hour.stays like that for?if i recap it,it is a keeper.if someone wants it,then it goes.i have too many projects in the works as it is and i paid too much to save this one.still needing to move the "white night" also.the more i look at it,the more i literally hate it!i would go to fort wayne to get that zenith if it wasn t white.white furniture is all that is wrong with this world.i think i need some counseling on this issue.might wait until the free health care kicks in!

Man, that's purty! Funny, I often daydream about finding a -7 (or -9) sitting in somebodies house, somebody who had money back then. Neat sets.

That french provincial just needs some nice gloss black paint...or even red! You know, it's a good thing I don't live closer, I'd be tempted to do some wheeling and dealing right now.

Hook this set to a converter box and it should work just fine with an antenna. Since the CRT is very bright and you are seeing snow on the screen, the set's HV and signal circuits are in working order as well. A lack of snow on vacant channels would point to a very weak or dead tube in the tuner or IF strip, or else the AGC (automatic gain control threshold) control is set far too high for the signal area in which the set is located.

One way to test the set if you don't have access to air signals is with a DVD player or VCR. This test will confirm that the RF signal circuits are working as they should, and will also show whether the sweep circuits are working normally, although, as I said above, since you do have a bright raster the horizontal sweep must be OK.

BTW, I find it interesting that the CTC9 you got on CL was a "daily watcher" all these years--the CTC9 dates back to the 1950s and there are probably very few of these still in daily use.

I for one am glad you got the set before its former owner gutted the cabinet and put a plasma flat-panel in there. Well, at least he or she didn't make it into a fishtank, although who knows? The latter may have been their first thought before selling it.
