To set the new one up, I "just" go to a website or call, so long as I don't depend on the "new" cable modem, which is what I'm having trouble with.....Nice

Be careful--the site that comes up in place of "activatemymodem.com" is full of malware according to the hits I see that come after it.
What I did was connect old and new modems to cable at the same time and call from the old one. When he activated the new one, the old one let go and he called me back on the new one after about ten minutes. It was then that I got the news the set-top box also had to be replaced.
I still don't know if the new cable modem is working well. It's doing some odd things and mom's Dell Win7 laptop won't pass a speed test, hanging it up at Latency.
