There is a PSON pin that turns the main power supply when it changes state. If it is 0V in standby connect it to the 5V standby rail via a 100 ohm or so resistor. If it is 5V in standby connect it to ground via the resistor.

From memory the PSON pin for these boards is on the larger connector next to the 5V standby pin and it goes to 5V when the set is on, but I don't have the board in front of me to check.

mine has (+12v--GND--+5v--+VS--SB--+5v--GND) taps...

Have you ever seen the LED lit on this board? Just wondering if it comes on during power on?

+VS is probably the 5V standby rail and SB is PSON. I don't remember the LED and I don't have one on hand at the moment.

Perhaps it's time to dump that "virgin" into a volcano and be done with it.

The resistor value isn't critical. I've just shorted the pins when I've been lazy, but it's safest to use a resistor.

I did use the 150k and..... it started making power.... Ive got 11.?? coming off the 12v tap.. i plugged the small DC-DC board you mentioned earlier and its outputting 22v.. All is hooked back up except the plug that i have the resistor set on. The LCD backlights are not on. Beginning to believe the fault is elsewhere...

Still messing with this set... Mostly out of boredom, SMOKE or SCREEN will be the outcome...

With the SB jumped, and the board making power, should i be expecting to see the back light bulbs on since theyre hooked to the mip-260 board? Or are they triggered on by another source?

proscan

We used to sell these things. Actually, we still do as an RCA branded item. The main issue with these when we used them in store was the DVD player shorting out and killing one of the boards, and on one occasion letting the smoke out on the sales floor. If you really want to fix this dog, Sears still sells all of the boards. I think that they are the only licensed parts/repair center for RCA in the country.

Well its finally gone, with a filthy picture drawn in marker on the screen and an interesting plot-twist:

Saw some huge signs around town advertising free e waste recycle at our local BIGLOTS parking lot.. (sat-sun 9a-4p)

Went there with 4tvs loaded in the van at 10am.... NO ONE THERE... Ended up dropping them at a local recycler nearby... Later saw 2 big trucks there in the lot at 11am when i was running errands..(they were late)

Sunday came along and i noticed NOTHING in the lot on Sunday while i was at BIGLOTS... Turns out, they were MORE interested in computers and cellphones than any other e waste, so the BIGLOTS manager kicked them off the property...

Basicly, small time data miners posed as an e-waste collection business... I give em credit, they went all out on advertising

So beware folks when dumping your unwanteds...

And if VK moderators need extra data space for the site, feel free to delete this thread, the tv in question wont be getting fixed anytime soon..

Shucks, I was hoping to hear about the fireball caused by dumping it in to the volcano.

I make a habit of opening my computers and keeping the hard drive to reuse, or opening the drive and smashing the discs/chips to pieces....If I'm giving one away I format the drive then completely fill it with garbage data (such as tube data sheets) then delete the garbage data permanently.... Most data miners don't want to invest 6+ figures into data recovery of an unknown. Of course few computers leave my hands whole...I keep recycling each component into new systems till they die or are no longer up to acceptable specs.

A bit late to the party, but I was going to say LCD tvs use high voltage fluorescent backlights, the pop you were hearing was likely a bad fluorescent tube causing the HV to be discharged elsewhere (as the power supply turned on), I've seen them arc through the paper-thin wire insulation to whatever source of ground they can find. And immediately after it arc-ed, the power supply probably noped out until its programming said it was ok to try again.
