Dynex 40L261
This latest RSF (roadside find) is a Dynex 40 inch CCFL from 2011. It has composite, component, vga, and HDMI inputs but no USB or S-video.
I didn't expect much out of this but it was a CCFL. It was filthy, very dusty inside and had something splattered on the screen. After cleaning it up and switching the menu screen to English, I discovered it was set up for K-call stations. Re-scanning, it picked up 96 stations. I couldn't get the HDMI to work. This might be HDMI 1.4 and my generator is HDMI 2.0. Not sure if there is an incompatibility problem here. Does anybody know anything about this? Thanks.

I seen this issue when trying to use an HDMI 1.4 into an first generation HDMI, but also...
I've testified various TV with damaged HDMI, so I wonder if is the reason that ended throwed away...

I tried another HDMI source (blu-ray DVD player) and it didn't work either.
I did a software update on my test generator and got some strange results (on another TV). There is now a girl dancing in the test patterns. She dances across all the patterns coming thru the HDMI cable. I knew there was something fishy about the software update. She finally blows a kiss, then disappears. After that, the generator appears to work normally.

It should work fine on your blu ray player. I've seen first year HDMI inputs (2005) work fine on blu ray players. Good chance that TV caught some lighting from the cable box through the HDMI. Very common issue.
Check near the HDMI inputs - if there's a smallish IC being fed by the HDMI jacks, that's your HDMI port processor - probably bad. John |

HDMI inputs have +5 (as does USB & VGA). I know the USB jacks are fused on a PC motherboard (changed them before). Is the +5 necessary for operation on an HDMI jack? Thanks.
