No, I don't think it's a matter of misinterpretation. It says what it says, although James, and you, and the rest of us realize it should have said that useful resolution is 350, not useful lines. We are clearly in agreement on that.

I would not try to overthink this in terms of giving credit or blame to the author regarding the substance, as the writing is so poor that you can't be sure if he had the substance correct in his head (although you might suspect he did).

I think you should only depend on this as a source for your work if it's for facts of implementation that seem reasonable and/or can be confirmed, and not for technical explanations, which are obviously confused.

A very sensible suggestion, that. Just one last thing, though: in the fourth paragraph on p. 125, (see the attachment) Battison says that having a kinescope film run at 30 fps would restrict the use of kinescopes "for audition purposes." Does anyone know what he might mean by this?

Guessing he means projection for sales of the program.

By the way, it is normal practice to run 24 frame per second film at 25 frames per second on TV in 50 Hz countries. I saw a Startrek rerun in Switzerland, and was surprised at the timbre of William Shatner's voice in the introduction - sounded to me a bit like he had just entered puberty.

That's weirdly appropriate, since several times during the run of the series he is described as the youngest starship commander in the fleet.
Actually if you want to hear something really weird, there is a version of Tom Lehrer's "The Elements Song" (the periodic table set to music) on You Tube which has been slowed down by about half. The pitch is the same, but it sounds as though Tom has been drinking a bit...
