Hi Telecolor,

Welcome to the forum. I'll give you a couple of tv sites that have extensive links pages: www.earlytelevision.org

www.tvhistory.tv

Plus my own site that may be of interest to you.http://community.webtv.net/stevetek/StevesCT100
In answer to your questions on your other threads. Westinghouse was first in marketing a color set in Feb. 1954. They beat RCA by about 2 months. There is some evidence that Admiral offered a 15" color set in Dec. 1953, but this has still not been documented. As far as color movies on tv in the 50's. The "Wizard of Oz is the best example. It first aired on CBS in color in 1956.I believe NBC aired "Richard the III. in color in 1955.

Man there are all kinds of sites on the web! If you do a Google or Yahoo search for vintage tv, vintage television, or anything close to that, you'll pull up numerous sites. There are several in the European countries as well.

If you like, check out this here...

http://www.tvhistory.tv/index.html

Click on the "collections" tab at the top and you'll find a pretty good list of several people (many of them here on AK) that have sites with their sets.

Most of the sites have links to other sites, so after you go thru a few of them, you'll have a pretty good amount of material to look thru.

Enjoy!

Hey Charlie,

Looks like a bunch of us jumped in at the same time. The important thing is that Telecolor got his questions answered. The Forum is good.

I would also like to say welcome, Telecolor! You can give us a different perspective, from your part of the world...when did your country get color tv? (or tv in general?) What brands of sets are common in Romania?

@bagdow
Romania got the first color show in 1983. The ideea ti intoduce color televsion in Romania dates back in 1969, but the big problem
was what sistem to choose: PAL or SECAM. The majority of Eastern-Europeanen countryes (except former Yougoslavya) choose SECAM. Weel, finaly in 1983 when former GDR (East-Germany) produced a bistandard color tv Romania diced to introduce PAL (yup, like Western-Europe), and the first Roamian color tv "Telecolor 3006" was produced (well, in fact it was Romanian only with it name, like many others thing the majority of the components where imported: the tranzistors and the speacker where Made in GDR and the picture tube was Made in Japan by "Toshiba"-it was 22" (56 cm) The sets well prertty expenisve for the time (about 12 sallaryes !!!-15.000 lei). Later versions equiped whith French and Polish ("Unitra") picture tube apearred. Well, I ain't got a "Telecolor 3006", but I got a "Telecolor 3007" manufactured on December the 5, 1984.
That was the color tv set of my chilhood. From 1987 'till 2000, at my home I watched b & w tv (my parents divoreced and the that remaind at my grandfothet 'till this year).
So, you'll not find Romainan color tvs with with electronic tubes.
But, some persons which traveled outisde Romania bougth with
them color tvs before 1983. Unfourtenly, the majority shamsed them-well, i know two differnet guys who shamesd some Hybryd "Telefunken". I found an hybird "Normende Color President" with five tubes, and I inted to buy it

Should have chosen NTSC!

Actually there is a variant of NTSC using 625 lines 25 frames/sec somewhere in South America. Or was it PAL at 525/30?

Here's a link: www.tvmuseum.co.uk

@ bgadow: the Romanian national tv brand during Communism was "Electronica". After 1990 it split it 2: "NEI (Network Electronica International)" and "Thomas". They firts manufactured
tv sets with British Components, but today they use Turkish comonents.
The today most weld foregin brands in Romania are: "Sony",
"Panasonic", "Philips", "LG (former Goldstar)", "Samsung",
"Nippon", "Watson" (China), "Domotec" (China), "Sonic" (Trurkey).
I'll put a short history of televsion in Romania soon.
