I gave away my couch one weekend last year when I got 2 console sets at once, so I could fit them. I got 11 console TVs (5 of which are big ones with radio+phono) and 3 console radios all stuffed in a 1 bedroom apartment, I use the tops of the consoles to put all my portable/table-top sets. In my closet you will find CRTs. In my kitchen cabinets, Sams. In my desk drawers, tubes and caps. ...

But then what? Is the medium really the message, because the message is not very good.

McLuhan might have said "The medium is the pathology" in this case.

As I was wondering last night how many working round color sets are there out there, then I started wondering about old sets in general, so I figured I would start this thread up again.

color rectangular:

1975 Zenith 19" chromacolor II plastic cabinet - remote (SC 600) - working
1968 Zenith 21" metal cabinet - working
1967 Zenith 25" console - working

color round:

1963 Philco combo -working
1961 RCA CTC-10 console - remote - not working (but CRT tests good)

B&W:

1970 Zenith 23" metal cabinet - working
1961 Zenith 19" metal cabinet - working
1961 Zenith 23" console - working
1960 Zenith 17" metal cabinet - remote (SC 300) - working
1960 Zenith 21" console - working
1959 Magnavox 24" combo - working
1958 Sylvania 17" metal cabinet - not working
1956 RCA 8" metal cabinet - not working
1954 Westinghouse 21" metal/wood console - working
1951 Motorola 17" bakelite cabinet - not working
1951 Teletone 14" bakelite cabinet - not working

b/w round:

1950 DuMont RA112 19" console - not working (but 19AP4 metal CRT tests good)
1949 Hoffman 610 10" - working
1949 RCA T-100 10" - not-working
1949 Motorola 8" electrostatic - not working
1948 Hallicrafters 12" - not working
1948 GE 10" - not working
1948 Motorola TS-4J 7" electrostatic x4 (but I really only have enough parts between them to make 2 complete sets)
1947 RCA 721TS 10" (ch-1) not-working
1946 RCA 630TS 10" (ch-1) not-working

As you can see I've got a lot of sets that need fixing...
26 sets total, I just went back and looked at my first post in this thread, only 5 of the sets I have now are part of the original 21 I started with then. I probably reached my all time high with nearly 50 sets at the beginning of last summer, but I've sold/parted a lot of sets since then.

I don't know how you guys manage with such large collections, especially the one who said he has 12 color roundies. My modest vintage TV lot is as follows:

(1) Zenith 25MC33 Color Roundie 1965 (working)
(1) Motorola 9VT1 B&W Roundie 1949 (was working-restored chassis but needs ballast tube)
(1) RCA 8" Personal Portable, 1956 grey cabinet version without stand and antennas (restored and working)
(1) Quasar 12" B&W Solid State 1978 (like new but has horizontal hold problem)
(5) 5" Portable B&W Sets (3 with am/fm radio)
(1) Sony Watchman FD-42A 4" Flat CRT B&W Portable

My lot of vintage radios, tube and transistor is larger still.

I'm a small time player compared to those of you with over 200 TVs.

Since moving back to CA a few mos. ago I've only acquired 8 t.v.s, but my place is overrun with antique radios!

Updated t.v. list;

(1) RCA CTC-15 (working)
(1) '64 Motorola rectangular CRT color console (working somewhat, but needs to be recapped)
(2) Zenith Space Command 600 sets (1 working, 1 not)
(1) Sony KV-1997 (repairs in progress)
(1) pre-Phillips era Magnavox 19" set (working)

From oldest to newest:

Late 40's RCA 8T-243 10" tabletop

1950 RCA TC127 12" console- my first full restored roundie, I love it in the living room

Early 50's Tabletops:

Sparton 5325-A (indesructable, working original, unbelievable!!)

Motorola 17T13 and 17T8 17" one is bakelite, and one is wood. The bakelight is another working original.

Mid to late 50's sets:

1956 Philco 4136 21" Tabletop-another indestuctable, working original!

1955 or so Magnavox CTA992AA 21" console (current flyback project)

1959 Zenith Space Command 24" 18c24Q chassis (any takers? recapped! Still doesent work but looks as if it were hardly ever used. Pissed me off!)

Newer Stuff:

Early 70's hybrid 19" Sears tabletop Model 5284188521. It was too cool to let go to the landfill, plus it worked fine. INSTA VIEW-always unlpug!!

1984 Sears 27" remote control console. Not really a collectable but here is another super set. We bought this set in 1884 and it served perfectly with no service until late last year. Still plays like new intil the picture goes kind of blurry after 15 minutes or so. This newer solid state stuff isnt really my in my knowledge base so I have to decide if I should take to the shop or scrap. My Dad who bought it says move on and get a new one. I tell him I would rather attemt repair a set that has seved flawlesly for 23 years than buy one of these palstic China made tirds that might last 5 or 6 years.

Early 80's Panasonic 19" tabletop-superb utility set-any room-any time

1993 Zenith 19" remote, stereo, tabletop- my current daily workhorse on top of the beloved but sick Sears family heirloom

Emerson Model VR35 TV/FM/AM/PSB- this is one of those carry along battery jobs with maybe a 4" b&w crt. Bought for Winter power outages

49 as of sometime in July. I now have a third RCA Victor 8" personal portable. I don't know if I'll keep it, but the bottle is good. Oh, what the hell. It's officially 49.

The most I've ever had at one time was 30. Since the move about 9 years ago I have gotten rid of most of them. Here's what remains:

B&W:
1949 motorola VT-73 suitcase - working
1952 Capehart 17" - in progress

Color:
1962 RCA CTC-11 - Not working
1964 RCA CTC-16 - Working, in progress
1964 Packard Bell 21" - Not working
1966 RCA CTC-17 - Working, in progress
1968 Panasonic 19" - Working, needs repair
1968 heathkit 21" - Not working

Just about all my sets are big consoles, so there's not much room for anything else!
