I could go on at great length over this, it makes my blood boil!!!!!!!!
What few engineers are left have no say in unimportant things like quality, but never mind, feel the width instead. ex BBC engineer of some 27 years experience. |

But on the other hand I just searched the web for something I remembered from twenty years ago: U2, Sunday Bloody Sunday, on MTV Europe. It was back then almost a pain for me to watch how dark streaks were constantly burnt into the tubes.
Of course U2 Live at Red Rocks: Under a Blood Red Sky, and I see quite a lot of comments describing the burn streaks as really objectionable ("lipstick thrown over the image"). Indeed I can't remember any other production with such bad tube burns. There is a mention of producers used to the phenomenon from the Irish TV show "The Tube", but what I find at a glance of it just shows usual trailing, no dark streaks that last for minutes. One Youtube comment claims that worn out Saticon tubes are particularly susceptible for burn streaks. Makes me wonder who provided the equipment for this production, of course in the first place which kind of equipment (camera model etc.) it was. The footage itself reveals, besides the obvious use of Saticons, hardly more than rain covers. |
