green halo

I have encountered a zenith with the common green halo. From observation the zenith tubes use a different bonding material than rca. As we know, the rcas dry out while the zeniths still maintain some kind of resilience around the edges. I tryed my heat gun technique on the green halo, it did not create an air pocket as it has on the rcas. Unfortunatly, the lens cracked. I just found a nice junk tube from a tv at an estate sale with green halo and has a good lens. Isnt there some kind of technique of setting the face of the crt in some kind of chemical and the bonding will dissolve away? Are there any other good techniques? RCA's are easy. These zeniths are a challange!
Thanks-Doug

i use a 2 foot length of nichrome from a dryer heating element and a 12v truck battery.
do it outside as the fumes are nasty.
i made a set of handles and some old booster cables.
make sure the wind carries the smoke away from you.
think of it as a hot wiresaw.

just did a 21fj over the weekend.
it was nos rca with a 66 datecode.had never been out of the box till i got it.
cataracts just as bad as found in a set that saw everyday use.
i will be testing different gauges of nichrome and will post what works best.i figure if you are working with vintage electronics you will have access to 12v batts!
i used a 26 ah gel cell from a ups this time.
