An excellent Zenith documentary film from 1955

A friend of mine informed me of a video he found and uploaded today on YouTube. Needless to say, I enjoyed it very much.

This documentary presents a nice cross sectional view of what was going on at Zenith back in 1955. The so call "Long Corridor" was part Zenith's then engineering facilities and main plant at 6001 W. Dickens Ave in Chicago.

It's so sad that it's all gone now other than some existing abandoned plants.

But at least we can enjoy seeing the prosperity of our past in action with films like this:

Watched it. Was great. Never again will we see electronic manufacture. Really don't like new technology. Great that we're moving ahead but a shame we don't do much of it in this country

Doug, thanks so much. I suggest those who are interested download a copy to their computer for preservation.

I watched with an eye out for anyone I might recognize. John Rennick appears in the foreground at about 06:13. I never worked with him, but I once had to call him at home long after he had retired, to ask about the color crystal capacitance value that Zenith had standardized on. I needed to change it for the design of some cable head-end gear, and wanted to make sure I wasn't making a mistake.

Rennick was the senior engineer for the Zenith participation in the NTSC color tests, and was on hand during the famous "blue banana' trick. He was so certain that Zenith's color prototype was correct, that when the blue bananas came on screen, he told RCA that they had a transmission problem, turned off the Zenith set, and went to dinner.
