SABA Freiburg stereo vollautomatic 125
Hi all, here is my Saba set from 1960; its a monster!! 5 speakers, push pull output, or ultra-linear single end, twin motor driven tuners, variable bandwidth on AM, covers L/M/SW and VHF , remote control, magic eye and bass treble controls, with speech/music selectors......to give an impression of size, the two round speakers are 10" units on the front. The tweeter is only in circuit in MONO, to give the AM sound a treble lift to the range.............ianj

The radio is big; each round front speaker is 10" diameter. They are the Rolls Royce of valve/tube driven radio sets. The Motorized tuning is switchable in/out of circuit. If it is in , it drives the flywheel tuning control itself, and , through the magic eye circuit, will keep the set on-tune, even if you nudge the tuning control off the station, it will instantly move it back -its funny to see!
The two rocker buttons at the bottom of the set control motor drive direction, and the set can be individually tuned by motor on AM and FM bands, or by the remote control, of course.........so any 2 stations can be left in tune at any one time---on the outer edges, once pressed, a green lamp illuminates, and the motor will drive the tuning quickly to the next station, then a click is heard, and the tuning control "rocks" gently from side to side to tune the station correctly. If you press the inner edges of the left or right rocker buttons, the motor drive is slow, and will only stop at the WEAKER stations. This is for both AM and VHF. You can cancel the automatic system at any time, by pressing the selector button. The tuning control reverts to manual. All the buttons light up, so you can see what you are doing at night with the light off. The speakers, chassis, motors, everything are made by SABA themselves, and are of super quality, as is the gearbox and tuning mechanisms. This set is not for the faint-hearted!! The chassis is chromed, and the valves are all seated in ceramic holders. Glad you like it!! ianj |

Great looking radio!
I am presently working on a SABA console radio, the Breisgau Automatic 11. Anybody have a schematic on it? Thanks! Larry |

What you cannot see are just how many valves there are................16 or 17 in all, all mainly grouped around the transformers to the right of the chassis. On the left hand side , you can see the motors for AM and VHF tuning drives, and the gearboxes........
