I don't envy you, Bob. Moving is a lot of work. When I moved from a three-bedroom house with a basement to a one-bedroom apartment seventeen years ago, it took me the better part of a year just to get settled, mainly because I had brought a lot of stuff with me from the old house. Much of that wound up in the trash area behind my apartment. The place looked nice enough when I moved in, since I had gotten all new furniture which was already in place when I got here, but the cleanup, not to mention it taking another year (!) to get used to living in this area (Fairport Harbor, Ohio, where I live now, is a village of about 3100 population, thirty miles east of Cleveland but not considered a suburb of the city; I came here from the Cleveland suburb of Wickliffe, which is a city of 15000+ population when I moved here--it's a lot less now) took quite a while, as I mentioned.

It looks as if you will have your work cut out for you when you move into your new home, with all your furniture (unless you are buying all new furniture, as I did), not to mention your antique/classic/vintage TVs and radios and all. If you are going to use one bedroom of the house to store your collection, however, it shouldn't be much of a problem.

I moved over more TVs on Saturday. Removing the chassis sure does lighten the load!


We rented a moving truck Sunday and finally moved the furniture and big consoles. We had amazing weather in the 60s both days. About 30 degrees above normal!

It's going to take a while to figure out where to put everything.

There's still lots to do at the old place too. Like breakdown my old workshop and move the rest of the small stuff like dishes and books.

Chassis removal, and if the stairs are carpeted sliding the cabinet up or down on it's broadest flat surface are two of my favorite console moving tricks....Makes a 2 man job of moving a 6' wide 60's color console on stairs into a 1 man (me) job. I keep them intact on level moves...Most I can lift level my self, and those that I can't (or when I feel lazy) I've got a Menards flat furniture dolly for.

T'was 65 on Sunday up here. The kind of weather you can't pay for this time of year, but often wish you could. I changed the thermostat/housing on my GMC Saturday so that when it gets cold again the heater should work.

Was u until midnight clearing the last of my stuff from the old place. The attic was a real back breaker.
I had been stashing spare parts chassis, power transformers, test equipment etc up there for years.



Got a lot of stuff to sort out at the new place now. This is just a taste. It's going to be a while before I'm back to working on anything,

One thing I always try to do before a fast move* (if I know it is coming in advance) is to lump as much stuff as I can into a "won't miss it" category then bring it to a swapmeet or two and unload it...Cuts down the main move work a bit.

*I've had slow ones where my house was for sale and I was living in an apartment in another state part time.

The old home, Bob was living in, must really be old. I never saw brick work the high at the roof line. They probably did it to have a ceiling in the attic.
They referred to that brick, in Milwaukee as "Cream City" brick. Still a lot of it around!

It was build around 1880-90 I believe. Walls are a full four bricks thick with no insulation.

I've heard it referred to as 'pink' brick around here. Reclaimed old brick sells for a quite bit.

Yeah, the ARCI/6m club swap meet is well worth attending ....Heck, it was better than ARCI's Radiofest meet a couple of years back when they tried to hold it at that rundown/cramped Day's Inn.

A good bit of cream city brick made it to Chicago...First house I lived in had one small outside wall of it joining the garage to the house. It was some of the newest brick of that type I've seen as my old house was built in the 40's.
