"The set was pluged in and all the tubes seemed to light up."
How about the broken one with the white top? Looks like it has been in a very damp area.

REAL TVs have TUBES!

I've had two of them, and neither had the stamp. One was the table model identical to this one; the other a console.

The seller eMailed me back, and says he now believes it's the 21AXP22. The mask is a dead give-away. I've only ever seen two sets with 19VP22s in them; my Hoffman prototype and one of two CBS-Columbia 360s that I've had. All other 19" sets I've seen or owned, had 21" tubes installed. The other CBS 360 has a real hack job, where scissors appear to have been used to make the mask enlarged!

I can't tell if the chassis is still copper colored or if it's rusted?

Mark,

I suspect Motorola built quite a few pre-production "experimental" receivers for trade show demonstrations and for their many distributors to provide dealers with demo models for private and public viewings. Motorola worked hard to promote and sell the "BIG 19" color tube" as long as they could, knowing that larger screens, such as RCA's 21" were in development.

Isn't that the same Motorola that sold over the summer? Looks like the seller cropped those photos down.

Yes, it looks like member Cheetam (cheat 'em? gotta love it) waited for the original page to be removed, then immediately put up his own auction page, an almost identical copy-and-paste of the August auction.

There have been fake auctions of a few of the nicer things in my website. In one of them, the "seller" offered to ship my 250-pound Scott radio/tv/phono combo from Peru to the UK for an absurdly low charge. They copied everything from the article, photos and text.

Unfortunately, I suspect the risk of running a fake auction is about the same as failing to pay state sales tax for an online purchase. Sure, it's attempted fraud, but what can eBay do but cancel your account, which was probably a fake identity in the first place. I picture a 17-year old geek in, say, Latvia, posting fake auctions on, say eBay UK, and hoping someone will eventually bite.
