9" RCA B&W set picked up for $5
Not sure what year and model. Picked it up yesterday for $5. Works great. Simulated wood sides and top. Any ideas what it is and when?

Another VK member has one and the AC cord was missing. Great working little set. Really has the Panasonic look to it. |

I have one identical to this. I know next to nothing about it and have never even tried to power it on. And I've owned it for over a decade now. hah.

Good little sets. Model # may be on the BOTTOM.
If not look inside, if nothing else there is a chassis number. Starts with KCS###- usually stamped in blue ink. No bad things I remember about them, just the usual dirty tuners, knobs, antennas etc. 73 Zeno |

I've seen several of these sets. Two RCA's, August 1982 and May 1984. The other one was JC Penny branded, and was March 1981. All three of the sets worked. They wanted $25 each, which was too much in my opinion. I had a second thought on the JC Penny one, as I've never seen a JC Penny branded set, but I decided not to get it, because I would probably sit it on the bookshelf and never touch it again.

Those sets were marketed as "Playmate" sets along with RCA's 13" and 19" Color sets that were marketed under the "Roommate" name, in 1979-1983. 1984 brought in a different series, the "Sportable," marketed during the Olympics.
Here's an ad with your set: https://news.google.com/newspapers?n...,3688019&hl=en
