It's a 21CT55. If it's for real, that's a pretty affordable price.

That Craigslist ad obviously got my attention right away. The set clearly was a 21-CT-55, not a CT-100. But the price was more than I was willing to invest in another treasure right now.

I had pretty much decided that I was going to pass on it and post the information here, but (sorry about this, guys!) then I figured "what the heck?" and called the guy and told him that it wasn't what he thought it was, but it was a collectible set and I was interested, and what would he take for it? And he said "Oh, pretty much anything. I just want to get it out of here." He had found it in the basement of his house when he moved in. So I offered him a couple hundred bucks and he agreed.

I made it to his house, about a 45 minute drive from me, in a little over a half hour. I'm hurtin' today from wrestling it out of the house and into my van, but it's a good kind of sore!

Awesome! The tv gods sure have shined on you! Those are always too rich for my blood but would love to have one. Great score! Maybe this time it's the deal of the year. Man, the good stuff sure has been popping up everywhere lately. Now, some needs to come out of hiding in the Chi-town area

Not a CT-100 but it's at least the next best thing!

As Pete Deksnis reminded me yesterday, although less lusted for these are actually way scarcer than CT-100s.

Mark, this is the second significant item I ran across on Craigslist (first was a 621 a couple of years ago.) And the only two prewar sets I ever tripped over were at house sales.

I checked Craigslist yesterday as I often do and searched for "TV" in the antiques section. Lately this brings up mostly listings for an empty cabinet for a 1950's vintage RCA black and white set ("nice piece of furniture; would make a great mini-bar!"), or a black plastic cased 27" Magnavox from 1984. Or the guy here who keeps listing an RCA 721 at $295. So I really did a spit-take when I saw the headline and photo on this one.

I guess the moral of the story is that this stuff DOES continue to show up unexpectedly, so keep an eye on Craigslist and don't give up on house sales. But yes, I'm still astounded every time it happens.

Great score Dave. Happy you were able to jump on this one so quickly and do a deal w/the seller. As Pete pointed out, so much rarer than a CT-100.

Glad it went to a collector and not a "tanker". Seems that a lot of sets are popping up these days unexpectedly, even in places like Arizona. It just takes patience and looking at the CL and auction site ads on a regular basis.

Congratulations for the deal, Dave_S. I trust the set found a good home, and that
your back will recover!
