Goodwill Packard Bell Roundie

I checked out the Riverside CA GW Packard Bell set Waltchan mentioned in the other thread and it IS a Color Roundie!

Mid 60's, tambor doors, missing channel selector knob, major scratches on the top but repairable, slight green cataract, $39.99

I just don't have any place to put it or I'd grab it.

oh man! Someone has got to grab that. Riverside is a bit far for me, but I'll gladly pay someone gas money and purchase price to bring it down here

It was still there at 11:00am today.
I may run by after work at 6:30 and see if it's still there.
I've been on again off again about grabbing it today but if you seriously want it I can get it.

Mmmkay, it's here!

The bad news, the CRT is toast, however it responded well to rejuvenating.
The Red & Green guns would work great at 8 volts but the blue was way down, I hit it lightly at first and it got worse so I used the "Super Rejuvenate" mode, sparks flew inside the gun, thought sure it was fried but no, it actually came up like new! Did the same to the Green gun with equal results. The Red gun was pretty good on it's own so I left it alone, if the tube holds up it should make a decent picture.

The top is scratched all to hell but none of them are too deep and should sand right out

I tried powering it up, the breaker was tripped, I reset it but when I plugged it back in it hummed for about 1/2 a second and tripped again, somethings shorted, possibly a cap.

Check out the pics, looks like someone did some "Shotgun" tube replacement!

Interesting vertical chassis, doesn't look like any RCA clone I've seen.

There was a thread about one of these a couple years ago. It seems to be a Packard-Bell design. Good score!

I was trying to get my hands on one that was up in ventura, but at the time I had no way to get it back here. not sure what it went for, i really wanted it. The packard consoles always have unque designs.

Even if the CRT on this one goes sounth eventualy, i may have a line on a 21FJp22, which I think this set uses.

I bet I have all the missing knobs on that set! But I am in turmoil, and am moving unexpectedly within the next couple weeks. (it's a good thing, not a bad one). So I might not be able to dig for the knobs right away. I junked a lot of those PB color sets and kept the knobs.

I didn't see the pics when I last commented...

I think that is a great find! I love that wood grain all over the CRT frame. That and the control panel make it look modern. I don't think I ever saw one of those but for some crazy reason I think I saw that set in a dream I had where I was looking at old TV's at an auction house. I think that set is worth refinishing the cabinet as well. It must be a very rare set. One of the neatest roundies I have seen.

I second that emotion!!! I would love that set, as I like any non-PC board set. Great looking too... I would like to have that just to mess with people who only remember their crappy computers. After seeing the construction, I'll have to add a PB to my "get" list.

So if you turn that TV on without the keyboard plugged in, does it fry the motherboard?

Those Goodwill folk must have thought you were nuts to pass up all those wonderful black-plastic boxes in favor of that old thing. Any funny comments/looks?

Damn I go in that GW store all the time, was it the one on Magnolia avenue? Oh well I have no place to put another set anyway, glad somebody here got it.
