Stereophonic Newcomb
Here's a RARE find I just found. A Stereophonic Newcomb.
Not sure of how old it is. I couldn't find ANY info on the web. The model is RTS-40 Does anyone recall these? |

Yes! That's the same one I spoke of my Jr. High School having in '69!
It sounded quite good as I recall.

Probably late '60's. Open it and look for date codes on the motor, electrolytic capacitors, and transistors. Stereo institutional record players are not nearly as common as the mono units; but, they are out there and are usually decent quality units. The music room at my middle school had a stereo califone record player.

I'd replace the electrolytic caps in the amplifier, automatically.
We had 2 of these units at my high school. One was just like this one. The other one was full of tubes. Thats the one I preferred. These are good machines. If it was mine, I'd keep it.

Ain't had a chance to get to Knoxville to take that Newcomb AM-FM "Portable" radio to Terry's yet.. Even with the lousy caps, & the "Thunderstorm" noise, I can tell its a CRACKERJACK performer, or WILL be.. I'm thinkin' maybe even rivalling the R-389..

On AM DX, my money is that the Newcomb will be pretty competitive with anything.
