Didn't some or all of the George Reeves Superman episodes get filmed in color? There's a dollar DVD w/six episodes of another '50s series 'The Cisco Kid' in such lousy color it must have been original... colorization looks much better.

Darn it, your right, I was thinking of the later episodes, I didn't realize the early ones were in B&W.

I noticed somebody sold a DVD of those Fred Astaire TV specials from 1958 to 1960 on Ebay. Wonder if he can make more of them, I'll ask. Probably just homemade ones though as I don't think they are sold on the market except on tape.

All 156 episodes of the ZIV Television Production, "Cisco Kid" were shot in color starting in 1950. ZIV also shot the series "Science Fiction Theater" 1955-57 in color. This gave these series a much longer syndication run when color tv started to take off in the '60s.

In general the best shows to watch on these sets for me are ones that were in on the conversion to color, like Bonanza, Star Trek, etc. Shows that started out in black and white and then converted to color too. Star Trek, Bonanza and Batman especially since they really pumped up the sets, costumes and scenery with lots of great exaggerated color.

The first "Get Smart" was B/W, as was the first "Hogan's Heroes." The rest of both of these series was, of course, color. 1965 seems to be when many shows made the big switch to color. The Wild Wild West on CBS started in 1964, and went color in 1965, as did Petticoat Junction, and The Beverly Hillbillies, and Bewitched, to name a few.

Our local TV station played B/W copies of the "pre-'48" Warner Bros. cartoons up to 1972. My mom would tell me that these films were made in color. but in my 15 year old mind, What did she know? Finally got to see all of these films in color in my first TV job in 1976.

The old "Hazel" series on NBC was in B/W for its entire first season, 1961, except for show #6, a show where Hazel buys herself a new color TV to replace a beautiful little RCA clone. Her employers also buy a new color set to replace their Zenith B/W. It was an RCA color 21" much like my CTC-10. The rest of the first season, up to show 35, or 36, I cant remember, was B/W.

Right on holmesuser. Here's the offical storyline:

First aired: 11/2/61
George and Dorothy's nightly television viewing has been getting interupted by Hazel who's excuse is that her television set in her room is broken. This leads to George taking her down to the store to by her one, which is where she decides to get a color TV and quickly becomes the talk of the
town.

I remember in the 70's when we kids watched Gilligan's Island reruns habitually, all we ever saw were the color ones. Then the black and white ones just seemed to pop up and be played too, it was like, heyyy we never saw these before! (before they did that colorizing junk to them too.)
