Console hinge repair?

Not sure which forum is best for this question but I've got this console hinge for a turntable lid and there is left to right slop in the joint circled. The problem this slop is causing is when you lift the lid, it goes up about an inch and then gets stuck. Then with quite a bit more force than you'd expect to have to use, it'll pop up beyond that stopping point and lifts just fine from then on.

Any ideas on how to repair this hinge given that I don't want to sink in a bunch of money? I could easily destructively remove that rivet and possibly repair the metal with a little welding but a regular off the shelf rivet wouldn't look right.

For the record, the other joint has no slop so I'm almost certain I've identified the cause of the problem.

Not sure if there's much I can do but figured it might be worth asking here.
