Ebay 12 AP4 Crt ???

Did anyone else follow this auction?

Item # 2183754833

It was listed as a 12 AP4 CRT, but sure looks like a 12LP4, and it closed at a mind boggling $517. A bargain if it was a 12AP4.

I emailed the seller and explained it wasn't an AP4 and sent a picture of the real thing, of course no response. I wonder how long it will take the buyer to realize he bought the most expensive 12LP4 in history.

Well it does say 12AP4 on the base cap.

Is the 12AP4 a Pre War tube?

Eric,

No idea why the it's labeled that way. The 12AP4 was used on most of the 12" pre war sets. Notice the HV connection near the neck of the tube. Here's a picture of the real thing:

Obviously different!

The seller says "Came from an old repair shop where it was found in an RCA 12LP4-A box."

So that's probably what it actually is unless there were two different tubes with the same number pre and post WW2?

Interesting thing is that buyer bought the pre war Andrea a while back so you would think he knows what he's doing?

The 12AP4 was sometimes labeled as 1803-P4.

The tube was rebuilt, and my guess is that the new base they put on was mis-labeled.

Hope the buyer caught it before paying and getting it.

I wrote to the buyer and the two underbidders to warn them.

Exclamation

The 12AP4 has a medium 6 pin base (like those on old radio tubes) and a 2.5 volt filament. The tube shown on eBay has a 12 pin duodecal base, which was introduced after WW2 in 1946.
