I can't be the only one who does this...
While watching METV, in addition to actually paying attention to the characters and dialog , my eyes are constantly scanning the background looking at the old cars, muscle bikes, and with scenes shot indoors- tv's, rotary phones, turntables etc.
I don't claim to be normal and definately march to my own beat , but tell me I'm not all alone on this one. Al |

I do the same thing. With the exception of METV. Too many commercials. I pefer watching the TV shows on DVD. The only time I watch METV is on Sunday afternoons for "Catch ME if You Can". I like Cannon, Kojak, Columbo, and Rockford Files and currently don't have them on DVD so have to watch on METV.

Yep, every time I watch Leave it Beaver I look for the GE 860 series radio that is now called the "Leave it Beaver Radio." It moved around from room to room for a while until if finally settled down in the kitchen.
I also look at appliances too. The Cleavers were a GE family as that was one of their sponsors. The Nelson's had Hotpoints, the Anderson's had Westinghouse Laundromat, etc. An old trivia question was name the three cars that drive in front of the Cheers bar in the opening credits. |

I like watching the cars on Perry Mason
Perry would usually drive either Cadillac or Lincoln convertibles. At the begining of the series he drove a Ford Skyliner. Paul Drake would drive either Thunderbirds or Corvettes. |

I know one of them, a 1975-77 Ford Granada. Not that I liked the show, mom watched it enough for me to pick up on that.

I do it too ! I used to be an expert TV spotter. Could name the
brand from '60 on with a quick front or back shot. Gets really tough in the 90's with the plain ugly grey or black TV's. Also love car spotting. Studebakers are the most fun but watching Mr. Ed is cheating. Wilber post had a Lark & Mr. Addison had an Avanti for a while, lucky guy........ For dial phones I just look next to me. 56 years old & still going strong. 73 Zeno |

Loads of car spotting on "Catch Me if You Can" and Emergency. This annoys my wife sometimes, "hey, look at that Packard that Chet is driving!" "Huh? I'm trying to watch the show!"
And, I must admit, Jeannie can be a real attention getter...

I'm always watching out for interesting vintage equipment in the background. Couple of nights ago I spotted an AMPEX 354 in the basement of the Physics building in The Big Bang Theory (season 6, episode 8, The 43 Peculiarity"). Fun stuff!

Awesome responses, thanks.
Catch me if you can rocks!! I especially like Columbo. I never watched that stuff when it first ran as I was just a kid and was into Mutual of Omaha's wild kingdom and such. So it's all new to me. Lots of spotting to do on all of those. Adam 12 too. You can always tell who furnished the cars for the show before the credits even run. Jeannie was I hottie, but I'm more into Elli Maye or Elizabeth Montgomery (Bewitched). Al |
