Today's record player finds
A couple at my church are downsizing in preparation to move to an assisted living home and they gave me this '68 Magnavox Astro-Sonic console, a load of classical/instrumental records, and a Dual 1226 turntable. The owner said the radio worked; but, the record changer had problems. I even got the instruction book with it and I think I found the Magnavox demo album mixed in with the records.
Then, I stopped in an antiques store and bought a late '40's GE console with the early version VR magnetic cartridge in it. It's a 78 rpm-only unit and I think the record changer was built by Seeburg. It has some small pieces of veneer missing here and there; but, it looks better than a Silvertone I looked at the other day. For $25, I figured I'd give it a shot. Had it not used the VR cartridge, I would have probably left it at the store. Here's a video I made of these items: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l45rstsZ-zA
