Awesome Pickup: RCA TMV-122b Oscillograph
Recently bought an RCA TMV-122b, maybe the closest I'll get to a prewar TV set. It is in great shape with original RCA 906 CRT with clear envelope. Really nice looking chassis. Seller claimed it powered up and what would you know, still works and looks original from what I can tell. Impressive.
Probably will leave in this condition as a show piece. |

Very cool! That was the very first scope I ever owned as a kid. It was given to me by an old guy in the neighborhood who ran a radio/TV shop for many years. I remember how heavy that beast was, particularly the thick steel case.
Used it for a few years until the power transformer HV winding shorted out. The CRT in mine was a DuMont replacement 3AP1, but I now have a clear envelope 906 in my tube collection. A wonderful tube for explaining how a CRT works, because you can see every part of the thing! |

Nice. I have a pre-war Clough-Brengle "oscillograph" that I bought at a ham radio flea market around 1980. At that time, it still worked as-is, but I will not power it up again until I restore it at some point.

I just stumbled across this old thread.... That was my first oscilloscope, almost 50 years ago; I found it at a junk store. The power transformer was missing, so I rewound a TV transformer to get the three 2.5 volt filament windings required, and used a Sylvania Halolight transformer for the high voltage. The damn thing worked! It's still out in the shed.
