Had a close call with death
At the beginning of this month, I was air lifted to the hospital from another, as I needed emergency open heart surgery. I had been feeling weak and out of breath, but thought it was asthma. As it turns out, I was 1 day away from dying due to blood cloths in my lungs and heart. I was put on a machine called ECMO that basically bypasses the heart and lungs and does the job of that so they could work on my lungs and heart, and give it a rest as my heart was swollen as well. I have since been taken off of the ECMO machine (especially since I'm home now) and doing better. Still in pain and numbness on my chest, but not as bad as I was originally.
I have since been discharged and am now home, and finally can breath better. https://i.imgur.com/A4ea8g1.jpg |

Similar story. 13 yrs ago ( age 49) I wasnt feeling right. Breathing
problems I wrote off as asthma that I had since I was a kid. Then I puffed up like the Michelin man. Off to hospital & they took 40 lbs of water out of me ! Tests showed I was down to 20% ejection rate & a few days away from a fatal dose of death. Drugs & "lifestyle" changes cured that ( CHF). Next summer I climbed a few mountains ! Only problem I have now is a-fibs. that do slow me down. We really have to thank God for modern medicine. Used to be this condition gave you 5 years like it did my Grandmother( 86 yrs). My father with just 1 med lasted til he was 93. 73 Zeno LFOD ! |

You're extremely lucky. Modern medicine is still a crap shoot. About half of all adults that are put on some form of life support (including more traditional CPBs and the derivative ECMO devices) will never be taken off life support.
Take it easy, get your rest, and start ambulating as soon as the docs clear ya! Hoping for a full and complete recovery. |

Blood clots are killers. One clot screwed up my mother that ruined her small intestines. She had to get them removed and I end up loosing her 4 months later with the damage from that and her liver after a gall bladder burst that started everything.I think the blood thinners meds had something to do with the blood clots.
Take it easy lnx64 and get well . |

A friend of mine thought he had pneumonia. He was panting and could barely breathe. He got up out of his chair, took one step fell flat on his face and died. Same deal, blood clot. Those clots are no joke. Glad you caught it in time!

Nine years later, he had the same symptoms, excessive water retention and the rest. He passed as a result of complications of CHF. You have be thankful for the modern medical practices of today, as you have a much better chance of surviving. |

CHF, water retention and pacemaker. I'm alive because of a little box in my chest with a five year battery. I feel more like a cyborg!
