Better get the patch and backup the ole computer
Theres an ransomware called Wannacry that locks up your files and demands $300 bucks to unlock them.Especially people with XP OS .Better backup and get patch updates for all windows to have it covered.Luckily my XP computer is down already but now worried about Vista in my Dell.

I know. The Vista patch gives me "The update does not apply to your system" BS when I load it
https://www.catalog.update.microsoft...px?q=kb4012598 I might sound like a conspiracy theorist but I can see Gates is making $$$ on this as people upgrade their systems to a current OP.I used too love the guy.Not anymore. My love affair with windows ended when they came out with Win Millennium and what ever followed. Not I might get a Mac after all if I get hit. Last edited by centralradio; 05-14-2017 at 04:56 PM. |

I've been hearing about ransomware like that since ~2015 when fellow students at my college were getting it.
I've had so many hard drive failures that I always back up the important stuff anyway. With how clunky and out dated XP is the only reason I can see to keep it is to drive some ancient piece of hardware...

The patch deployed fine on both my XP machines and my Server 2003 platforms. If it is not working on Vista all I can say is you must have the wrong version of the patch.
Honestly the idea behind ransomware is fantastic. It really helps weed out the techs who are not doing their job like routine backups or hardware access security. |

I do agree on weeding out the dead wood as they say on the techs not doing their job .Some will be getting fired or have already for not updating and securing systems. Its horrible to see hospitals getting hit with this issue.I hope nobody died over this. |

My system has a "front door" computer with special software who's only use is a digital filter. A super-duper hardware firewall who's only task is to keep riff-raff out. It'll also partially clean ads out. I'm still installing the patch on all my Windoze 'puters to be sure.

Bad brain fart this weekend.I should know better.Age is growing on me. Will I found out why I was having issues here getting the update patch deployed.Did alittle homework reading up online and a call to my friend and found out that I did not have service pack 2 loaded in there.I only have SP1 installed .So I just spend an hour getting service pack 2 loaded and the important update patch went fine after that.I hope this will help for those who need the info that make sure all the updates are up to date before getting the last one in the computer. Before all that .I backed up all the stuff onto my external drive. Thanks for the tips guys.
