This has me inspired to get the one I used to own working... It's in the hands of another Los Angeles collector, and he's 50/50 on letting it be worked on. I checked the CRT, and it's OK. I Variac'd it up, but the selenium rectifiers were acting up, and I never went further with it. I didn't realize they were so desirable at the time. Heck; I should probably have kept it, and I won't upset myself nor anyone else by blabbing what small price I sold it for... I'll talk with the owner, and see how he feels about it now.

Wow! Another one!
My guess is that there are more out there that have been overlooked, because they look so ordinary, and are not clearly identified as "color".

Any vendor recommendations for NOS tubes, Caps?

Radio Daze & Justradios.com are both good for caps. The latter can be slow to ship because they are in Canada.

Lots of places to get tubes; you might want to post an ad here with any needs. I personally have lots of TV tubes, more than I'll ever need.

(lots as in many thousand)

This one is the mahogany table model; in very nice shape but missing the back cover. I got it in the late 80s, and sold it to the other collector in the mid 90s. I've mentioned the set on AK, but it's been a long time. I think that with yours, the total known may be 3.

Yesterday, I was looking thru the manual that came with my "Dandy-Dapter" crt tester adapter. There was an extra sheet in there that appeared to be an updated list dated 1983. I was surprised to see there was actually a listing for the 22EP22 tube. It showed the pin-out being the same as the roundie tubes.

Edit: Got a scan of the page. I'm surprised they didn't just do away with the 22ep22 listing being that it was such a big flop from the beginning.

It's the same base, and I believe the same gun.

This thread is just amazing.

I have to wonder why, with all the black & white rectangular sets out there, that the rectangular color set didn't take off. You would think the roundie really, should never have happend.

What a cool piece of rare history. I have to say it is probably up there with the CT100 or the CBS sets. Just too cool

The rectangular tubes never worked right - convergence was the problem.

The tube developers probably could have licked the convergence problems with the early rectangular CRTs, but by 1956/7 it was apparent that on one was going to make any money on Color TV for some time to come, so no one wanted invest. The 21" round tubes were big enough and good enough. It took the better part of a decade for color TV sales to grow to the point that manufactures were willing to invest in substantial R&D on CRTS.

It is interesting that the more famous 15GP22 didn't "make the cut".
