Thank you for the link! I have loved that game since I first saw it in Minneapolis airport in 1982. I forgot how many home versions I have here.

23,395 in my first try, in "easy" mode because I have not played it in 15+ years. A "correct" controller would make all the difference, but the on-screen arrows in this version do help.

that is the only coin op game i mastered , could stand for hours with it , only went as high as level 9 and all you were doing was raking up points and lives.

i doubt i could play any other version and stay alive , that joystick was just right.

That coinop was unusual. The joystick is one of the only ones I have seen mounted diagonally.

Even more unusual, the cabinet had a solenoid placed inside so when Q*Bert fell...the solenoid would smack the cabinet inside making a little >bang!< after disappearing offscreen. Very creative idea, and an unusual task to ask of the PC board.

The Nintendo version of Q-bert had you hold the controller diagonally so its joystick moved in four "correct" directions.

I think the Colecovision version was the one I had the best performance with, getting to level 9. At that level, the whole game just about doubled in speed, seriously fast.
