Is not having the budget to afford even a fraction of the fair price, and taking a gloden oppratunity to get a highly sought after piece that one otherwise would not have chance to afford a crime.
If it is then I guess I've been dreaming (nefariously ploting?) to become a criminal. Tom C. |

It was for real. attached are some pix of the set, The "orange glow" mentioned
to the top was a RCA service oil cloth used for servicing that was left on the set for 40 years or so, It stick leaving a film of sticky stuff all over--The common things do not remove. I need an expert. Most likely will need to refinish. a bar generator indicates a need of a few repairs or adjustment, vertical out of range and no color prersent. For those you need to know, the set was purchased for well under the latest asking price. |

Congrats on the purchase of that RCA. Looks like you have a really nice example there.

Wow, that set looks really nice.
That RCA cloth possibly out gassed and melted the finish. Just taking it off may allow the finish to re harden over time. But I think you’ll need to refinish the top if you want it smooth. Same thing has happened to many a nice old tabletop from exposure to a vinyl tablecloth. Anyhow, glad this one has had a happy ending. Hope you enjoy. |

Really encouraging to see another one found "in the wild". There is hope for me yet!

Congratulations!
Leaving that cabinet top alone for a while sounds like good advice. Once the finish has stabilized, it will be easier to figure out what it needs. I would be very cautious about powering it up again right now. As you probably know, like every 55-year old TV, it's full of paper and electrolytic capacitors that need to be replaced. You don't want ruin the flyback or some other unobtainable part through impatience. Regards, Phil Nelson Phil's Old Radios http://antiqueradio.org/index.html |

A pair of CT-100's saved in one month, I'd call that a good month!
