21FJP22 Rebuilding

Three weeks ago I delivered 6 FJP duds to Magna-View in Dallas. I am very happy to report the experiment was a complete success. I now have 5 good tubes and will deliver the 6th one to a collector in Austin where I picked it up. One of my bottles had some air in it (with failed filaments). The leak was found by one of the pins and not the frit so they attempted to rebuild it and were successful. Magna-View has agreed to rebuild these tubes for collectors and fix the cataract for $165 each. If you have a tube that needs help call Phil Frierson at 800-323-9278. His only concern is shipping and they will not honor any warranty if a tube is damaged in shipping. I suggest you discuss this issue with Phil. This is only for glass tubes. They do not want to attempt any metal tubes. I'll try a bit more begging on this issue when I go to Dallas to pick up the tubes.

What do good used ones go for on eBay?

Guns are not a problem. One of the tubes I took to Dallas was actually an FBP. They will do all types of glass tubes related to FJPs. For some reason the parent company, VDC, will not let them try a metal tube. They believe there is an almost certain probability of failure. I offered to pay for the attempt even if it failed and they still refused. I think Dallas would try one but they have to answer to a higher authority.

Tim,

One of the collectors here recently sold an electrically good 21FJP22 with very slight green periphery halo on ebay for just over $100.

The 21" color tubes that command the big bucks are the 21AXP22's (~$700-$800), and to a lesser extent the 21CYP22's (~$250-$400) as I recall seeing.

Looks like it's time to run the ad again, even if it's just for extra stock! A lot of good and expensive parts can be had out of a $10-$50 set.

Question

Tim,

I thought you didn't have room for collectible TV's now. Where are you gonna store parts sets?

The Civic went in the paper today, so there's plenty of room in the garage
