Good--but badly cataracted 21FJP22 on Ebay
RIght now---there is a 21FJP on Ebay for sale in california. This tube has BAD cataracts--BUT shows on a tester (I THINK a Beltron), VERY good emission on all 3 guns. Cracked base--missing a section--like many nowdays--but good otherwise. Only 50 CENTS so far. WAAAAYYYYYY too far away from me to consider.

As bad as that cataract is that would be an easy removal. And price isn't really bad either.

So has anyone know if the ebay shipping calculator is dynamic, as in different
rates as per distance.... To me that shipping says $165.68 Do you guys closer see a different number....? I'm not going to bid on it, just took notice of the shipping, and wondered if that's why it's still at $1/2 buck. .

Indeed. This is how Ingrid and I got many a Roundie CRT to Hawkeye for rebuilds. Never had one which didn't survive the trip. And cheap too.

Shipping to Florida is quoted at: $162.49. So, good price for the tube but totally out of line for the shipping. Too Bad...

The calculator quoted me $131 to ship a mere 80 miles from the sellers location to me. I suspect the seller put in an astronomical weight and box dimensions or possibly very high insurance or both to get ebay to quote it that high.
edit: The seller wrote this in the description: "Shipping: UPS Ground. Shipping calculator is an estimate, only and is not an accurate reflection of the shipping cost. Please wait for an invoice before payment. Requires an oversize (27X27X34) box for safe shipping. Will be double boxed. Has a shipping weight of approximately. 60# " So he isn't even going to go with the ebay/UPS estimate. Sounds like shipping might be negotiable. |

Some shippers really ding you for an oversize box. Last year I shipped a big empty box to NY to have a CRT shipped back in it. (Well, nearly empty; it contained the padding to safely ship a CRT.) I choked a little when I saw the cost to ship the empty box. The counter guy told me, "It's all in the size -- you could put another 75 pounds of stuff in this box and ship it for the same price."

I guess the shippers want their "Fair Share" for the volume you are taking up in their trucks and aircraft. Oh well ...

Well, in that case I bet he high-balled it for those who would just pay as soon as the
auction ends, without reading the - wait for a total - part of the ad, and then complain if the cost were higher than a true ebay shipping estimate.... I believe there was a story on VK about a tv part with a scenario like that a while back.... Interesting..... Wait for a true total, or not read the directions and pay more.... Smart seller...??? .

This CRT went to a local collector, so the shipping cost was avoided.
