Got another roundie!

Here's one that I found while "pickin" The original owner was dragging it to the curb face down on a rug!
When I stopped and asked if he was throwing it out he said with a smile "where the hell were you 10 minutes ago!"
Seems that he and his wife managed to get it up the basement stairs but she nearly collapsed!
He got it the rest of the way on the rug when I happened to come by.
It has some easily fixed scratches on the front but the best part is it works good! Has an RCA replacement crt with the removable safety glass too.

Captain,

Good score. Even if it is just a good 21FBP22 it is well worthwhile grabbing today. What brand set is that?

I thought you said you thought these sets were ugly and old fashioned? Change your mind recently?

Sylvania?

Good score! Isn't that a Sylvania? If memory serves, someone here on AK had one of those in good working condition.

Here it is in the "show us your color sets" thread. Jshorva had it with King of the Hill on the screen.

Yes, I used to hate getting these sets back in the late 70's and early 80's Because I used to resell them for funds for my car hobby at the time, Those roundies were hard to sell for much back then!
When I bought the 19" Motorola back then off that engineer, I was laughed at for quite a while at the shop! I also distinctly remember in 1986 throwing a mint 62 Zenith identical to the one in the post in the dumpster behind my shop! I just had no space for all the sets, As you know, Some of them survived by me taking them to my uncle's or friends houses, But the majority went to the dump sadly...
But after not seeing those sets in a long while I have grown to appreciate them and certainly won't let them go to the dump!

Excellent !! Another one saved from the dumpster. Cabinet looks a bit rough, but nothing a little elbow grease & old English can't handle.- Sandy G.

Capt'n Moody.... Didn't I give you some original instructions for a Sylvania set like that when you were at my house? If not, I'll look for them if you want 'em.

The cabinet looks good after the touchup with stain/sealer.

I used fine steel wool to remove the white paint at the top, Then used a dark minwax stain/sealer, I just rubbed it on with a rag and wiped off the excess, It covers the scratches even on the photo finish.
I had to learn tricks to fix cabinets at the shop, It seemed that almost whenever we brought a console in it got a scratch somehow (my boss was lousy at moving them) and that was a big no-no with the customers...

Did you wipe this minwax stuff over the entire cabinet? Did you wash the cabinet first with something like Murphy's Oil Soap, or paint thinner/solvent to remove previous wax, etc?

I guess what you've done will take a few days to get hard right?

Capt'n,

I just looked through my stuff and found the instruction manual I was talking about, so don't bother checking. Bad news is, it shows a rectangular screen (but identical controls and appearance). Also came with a schematic! Yours if you want it.

BTW, My brother-in-law would like to give that big Zenith combo a good home, especially if that would free up more space for your orphan TV rescue shelter.

The set is yours Carmine, Rob I washed the set off with a slightly diluted cleaner/degreaser then wiped on the stain/sealer especially heavy at the scratches then wiped off the excess, You know, Like the movie, Wax on wax off...
The steel wool gets off any rubbed on paint and levels the damaged areas somewhat prior to the stain treatment.
A couple of days and the finish dries hard to a satin look. I hate to refinish those sets if not necessary, Trying to keep them as original as possible in all ways.
