Question?

I mentioned in a previous post that the last RCA TV plant in the U.S. was closed last week. The plant in Marion Ind. employed over 900 people. The Knight-Ridder news agency reported that a "mysterious" fire was started at the plant after the closing was announced, and over 500 color picture tubes were destroyed. My question: Are their any remaining TV set manufacturers producing complete sets left in the U.S.? Or at least assembling them from offshore parts.

This is what I know, not sure if it's accurate or even correct at this point as it goes back a number of years.......

Sony was one of the first to build a TV plant in this country, they built their early Trinitrons in Compton Calif. At one time (maybe still) they build/built large screens in the former VW Rabbit factory in Pennsy (this was an aborted Chrysler plant)

I understand that Panasonic, Philips and either Toshiba and or Sanyo have factories here too. Of course, they all have Mexican afflilates thanks to the one world goverment NAFTA treaty (do NOT get me started on that!)

What I cannot fathom is why Zenith etc can't seem to operate a plant here while so many others can. Do what they're doing if you gotta (source certain parts offshore---as much as I hate to say that). At least we'd as a society benefit from jobs, taxes, etc not to mention the inherent pride of saying Made In America.

My fantasy has always been to win a mega Lottery so I could buy back the Zenith name and make quality sets here once again. Like Iacocca, I'd make a major point of this in my advertising and would blow the lid off the fact that the "other American brands" were in fact neither built here nor even owned by an American firm. IN YOUR FACE!
